With the investment of the Mazak OPTIPLEX 3015 FIBER III 8 kW, Ingengiörsfirman Bågenfelt & Hellström brings completely new technology into the house. The Mazak solution makes a big difference in production rates and also opens up new machining opportunities.
“This is a machine to grow with,” says Kristian Wejrum, CEO and Co-Owner of the Swedish company Ingengiörsfirman Bågenfelt & Hellström. The Gothenburg-based Bågenfelt & Hellström is a workshop company with 40 employees that offers subcontracting in machining. The company also has its own production of a range of products such as vibration feeders with peripherals, conveyor belts, special machines and robot servo units. These products are also used for the automation of their own productions.
A broader customer base
When it came time to replace one of the company’s two water jet cutter machines, they chose to replace it with a fiber laser. “We see it as part of our development where we optimise production and keep up with technology. Hopefully this will be a common thread in other parts of the business as well, which can even lead to us expanding the clientele,” Wejrum says.
The OPTIPLEX 3015 FIBER III 8 kW was launched in early 2019 and inaugurated in conjunction with an open house on 11th April. Gustav Pettersson, who previously manned the water jet cutter, can now call himself a laser operator. “Today, we run all the sheet metal through the fiber laser and you can clearly see that there is a completely different production rate,” he says. “Speed is probably the greatest advantage. This also opens up a broader clientele because many people require laser cuts these days.”
After a tour of Bågenfelt & Hellström, it is not hard to understand why the choice fell to Mazak. The large production hall holds no less than 12 Mazak machines, of which three are lathes, two five-axis milling machines and seven three-axis.
“It is simply a good machine,” says Kristian Wejrum contentedly. The very first Mazak specimen landed in-house 40 years ago in the form of a manual lathe. The company then returned to Mazak about 15 years ago, when they wanted to replace legacy machines they were no longer happy with.
Speed is probably the greatest advantage. This also opens up a broader clientele because many people require laser cuts these days.
